Alexander “Sandy” Stuart is the President of North Star Investments, an investment firm responsible for identifying and managing a wide variety of assets for family clients. Prior to assuming this role, Sandy was the President and CEO of Conway Farms, a 500 acre golf course, residential and commercial project. In addition, Sandy co-founded a predecessor entity of Black Stone Minerals Company, an independent exploration and minerals management company based in Houston, Texas. Today, Black Stone is one of the largest privately held owners of oil and gas mineral rights in the country. Before entering the oil and gas business, Sandy was an Associate Editor and Bureau Chief for Fortune magazine. He came to Fortune after serving as a Research Associate on the faculty of Harvard Business School’s International Senior Managers’ Program in Lausanne, Switzerland. Active in civic matters, Sandy is the chair of Chicago Public Media, that city’s public radio station, a trustee of the St. Andrew’s School, and a director of Northwestern Memorial Lake Forest Hospital. Politically, he serves as president of the Lake County Republican Federation and has been deeply engaged on the finance committees of numerous Republican candidates, including newly elected Senator Mark Kirk. Sandy received his A.B. from Princeton University and his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
